Wayne's Words

Q and A with SLAUGHTER and THE DOGS VOCALIST WAYNE BARRATT

As the campaign to reunite the original line up of Slaughter and The Dogs for their 40 th anniversary draws to a conclusion I asked singer Wayne Barratt a few questions.

Doing it Wayne's style

You can help the campaign and obtain tickets for only a £25 pledge by going to:

Q. Are you looking forward to playing with Howard and Brian again?
A. Yeah I’m really looking forward to playing with them again. We should have done it a long time ago.

Q. What bands were you listening to when Slaughter started?
A. Mostly D. Bowie, M.Ronson, Velvets, Iggy, Roxy, L.Reed, L.Cohen, M.Bolan, A.Cooper.

Q. Was there much of a local music scene when you started?
A. Not much. Tthe only thing going at the time in Manchester was Sad Café.

Q. What are your memories of growing up in Wythenshawe?
A. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about growing up in Wythy. If you wanted something you had to go out & work for it, no one was assisted like today. If you wanted to buy a record you’d go to Boot’s in Civic or to the centre of Manchester. Free downloads and all that didn't exist in that day.

Q. How did Rob Gretton (Factory Records and Joy Division/New Order manager) get involved?
A. I think he hung out with us for a while & proposed his services like a lot of other Wythys did.

Q. Do you get back to Manchester / Wythenshawe often?
A. Not as much as I would like but like I said before every day I think of Wythy.

Q. How did you end up settling in France?
A. French girls are better in bed than the English so the answer is sex.

Q. Billy Duffy has requested you do your talc-hair entrance as you did in the early days, will you?
A. Ah ha good question the only way to find out is to come to the show.
